Should the Internet be Free?

If you’re reading this now, chances are you’re online. In the past decade the Internet has become a central force in our lives, responsible for everything from our bank accounts to our celebrity gossip, and with technology so prevalent some are now arguing for free broadband access. Should surfing the Net remain a cash business, or is it time for free admission into cyberspace?

    Choice ...

Perhaps there is a choice you are forgetting - a free-market internet has the charm of offering the consumer choice in purchasing or not purchasing depending on their personal means. Taxation is NOT voluntary. We can keep a voluntary purchase internet or we can impose on every single taxpayer the expense of an internet whether they desire it or not and without the option of shopping for the best price or canceling when the cost has become too exorbitant.

Many americans did not voluntarily choose a war in the middle east with its dubious justifications. They pay for it nevertheless. That is slavery as certainly as any other. Those who want war ought to be those solely charge with its cost. Those who want a free internet ought to be those solely charged with paying for it. That, unfortunately, is not how it will be or ever has been.

Again, "free" isn't remotely as free as you might think.
