What's the Best Style of Yoga?

Ashtanga, Jivamukti, Kundalini. These aren't exotic foods, they're a sampling of the many styles of yoga commonly practiced in homes, studios and gyms worldwide. Should you stretch more and breathe less? What about posture? Depending on the type of yoga you choose, you'll either find yourself feeling completely rejuvenated, or wondering what you woke up early for. Which style is best for you?

Kundalini Yoga Provides the Greatest Power to Change

Michael Kolasa

Kundalini Yoga Instructor

It is said that Kundalini yoga is a technology of awareness. It is a technology that incorporates the body, mind, and soul allowing a human being to have a direct experience between his or her individual self and the Great Infinite Self. This is experienced, according to Yogi Bhajan, when the energy of the glandular system combines with the energy of the nervous system, to create such a sensitivity that the totality of the brain receives signals and integrates them. As a result, you become totally and wholly aware and your creative potential becomes available to you. Yogi Bhajan explains that there are over 22 major forms of the practice of yoga, each incorporating a different facet of the whole. For example, Hatha yoga emphasizes the physical body, Laya (mantra) yoga emphasizes sound, Yantra yoga focuses on the use of visual forms. Because Kundalini yoga incorporates all forms of yoga it provides the practitioner with the greatest leverage, the greatest power to change and make a difference in our lives. This has truly been my experience practicing Kundalini yoga and meditation on a daily basis for the past 3 years. The power of Kundalini yoga is in the experience of it. No matter what I say about it, one has to experience it to have a complete understanding of its power.
