Should South Dakota Pass the Abortion Ban?

Should South Dakota Pass the Abortion Ban?

In 1973, the Supreme Court made one of its most controversial decisions, declaring most anti-abortion laws unconstitutional. Now on November 4th, the people of South Dakota will head to the polls to vote on a proposed statewide abortion ban. With emotions running high on both sides, how should abortion be legislated in tomorrow’s America? (Editor's Note: On November 4th, South Dakota voters rejected Measure 11 to ban abortion.)

Initiative 11 Preserves & Protects True Physician-Patient Relationship

Vote Yes For Life

Initiative 11 preserves and protects the true physician-patient relationship.  This law only eliminates abortions where there is no legitimate medical purpose or medical benefit for the mother.

Doctors who are caring for a pregnant mother and their patients who have real medical problems are totally unaffected by this law.  The practice of a doctor caring for a pregnant woman where the pregnancy poses a serious risk to the health and life of the mother remains the same as it is now under the current standards of medical practice.

The law only affects abortions where there is no real physician-patient relationship in the abortion clinic in Sioux Falls, where abortions are scheduled over the phone without the advice of a physician.  These abortions are never for medical reasons.  The woman is made to pay for an abortion and sign consent before she ever sees a physician.  The doctor never sees the women before or after the abortion, but only for the five to nine minutes it takes to terminate the life of the baby.  The doctor flies in from another state on the morning the abortions are lined up, and they fly home that same day.
