Guns, Mexico, and the 90 Percent Myth
By now we've all heard the statement, "90 percent of guns used to commit
crimes in Mexico come from the United States," but a FOXNews.com investigative
report released yesterday has punched a hole in that myth, concluding, "It's
just not true."
Even when the statement was "clarified" by ATF to say 90 percent of "traced"
firearms came from the United States, FOXNews.com reporters found otherwise,
saying only 17 percent of guns recovered at crime scenes in Mexico have been
traced to the U.S.
All firearms made in the United States are stamped with a make, model and
serial number, and a large number of guns recovered in Mexico do not have such
markings, indicating they did not come from this country.
According to the article, there is a big discrepancy between the number of
guns Mexico submitted to ATF for tracing and the total number of guns found at
crime scenes. That means many guns are coming from somewhere else, possibly the
Mexican Army since a large number of soldiers have deserted--some to work for
the drug cartels--and may have taken their guns with them. The black market and
Central and South America are among other sources the story mentions.
Among the weapons recovered at Mexican crime scenes are fully automatic
firearms, grenades and rocket launchers. These are most certainly not coming
from federally licensed firearms retailers in the United States.
With politicians and reporters continuing to promote the "90 percent" myth,
it would be nice if the media reported on the findings by FOXNews.com to set the
record straight.

A gun shop urged by ATF to let questionable and even disqualified buyers buy, and to let them buy many guns at once, which the ATF wants ceased. In other words, to break the law AND the regulation they're trying to impose extralegally to make the ATF look necessary and important.
And to permanently reduce our rights.
The ATF took them there, and encourages border-area gun shops to make multiple sales to shady characters in order to pad trace statistics. In exchange, the gun shop's books won't fail to "pass inspection."

ATF whistleblowers are being endangered by congressional foot-dragging.
Blame it on the US as usual. How about the lack of non corrupted Mexican officials? There probably ought to be more guns in Mexico in the hands of regular people so they can blow the brains out of the local politicians and drug lords. That should solve the problem real quick. Mexicans need to take back their country from the fucking maggots who have hijacked it!

Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City, N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician’s home county said. The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the shooting , Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested , declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening. The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn’t hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim. It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine. But this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids , and protect our families better than we can.
Just for the record, "call me Roy" is not "FreeRoy", and the senator cited above is not from Virginia.
Not surprised to hear of yet another anti- guns -for-regular-people idiot who nonetheless thinks that what he preaches for us should not apply to him. Just another Carl Rowan.
It's strange but the BATFE or Eric Holder can not produce a serial number. If they could it could be traced. But do not forget the cartels in Mexico. They have tons of money , can and do purchase all kinds of weapons from China or any other country that will sell to them.
A ship from China can pull into a Venezuelan port, unload them then work their way up into Mexico. What are claimed to be " assault weapons " is term invented by the anti-gun media .
There are just rifles shooting the bulletes they were designed for.
A true assault weapon is a bazooka, shoulder mounted anti aircraft missle, RPG (rocket propelled grenade and other weapons like that.
The fear that terrorist could use "assault weapons" against us is weak. Terrorist use bombs to kill dozens of people with one big bang.
Why spend $800 at a gun show for either an AK-47, or a AR-15, when you can buy them on the world market for less than $100?
Besides that, our friend, Hugo Chavez is opening up an AK-47 factory in Venezuela.

Without warning, stop and dog-check every vehicle crossing from the US
to Mexico. Also have special troops stop all crossers along the boundry.
If the subjects are aliens, they are 86ed [permanently banned from the
US]. If they are US citizens or legal residents, throw the book at them.
In any event, ALL firearms heading in either direction are confiscated.
Make Mexico a deal it cannot refuse regarding weapons in their own land.
Start disarming ALL gangstas and lowlives in the US. Make all licenses,
permits, etc. subject to renewal and register ALL firearms. All siezed
weapons must be destroyed after use as evidence. That shud be a good
start to end 'gun problems' involving the United States...Aaron Allen..
Seems to me pretty much the vast majority here believe in our Constitution. The 'no' voters have well researched and articulated arguments.
For the 'yes' crowd, I have no idea why you believe what you do. I guess it has to do with your agent of 'change'.
Far and away the most widely manufactured automatic rifle in history is the Kalishnakov AK 47. I first encountered an AK in Viet Nam over 40 years ago and I was, no pun intended, blown away by that rifle. The standard issue M 16 given the U.S. troops was trash . The Chi-Com made AK's were of excellent quality and the most reliable rifle I'd ever handled. Ask any veteran who served in Viet Nam. Unfortunately, there are many well-intentioned people who believe if private firearm ownership is outlawed, that there will be a miraculous change in human nature and violence will magically end. Please reference a 20th century examples of countries that enacted "common-sense" gun laws : Soviet Union, Germany under the Nazi's, Any and all eastern European nations under communism, come to think of it, ALL nations that were dictatorships had to first dis-arm their citizens. I can only hope that people in the U.S. will wake up and think the issue through, rather than simply blaming firearms and law-abiding for crime . Just for practice, please try your "ban them" thinking with any other item.
