From Ayers to ACORN, Media Has Pushed McCain’s Attacks
Jamison Foser, Media Matters for America
The media does not demonstrate a “liberal bias.”
They did not demonstrate such a bias while obsessing over the phony Whitewater “scandal,” or while misquoting Al Gore in order to accuse him of lying. They did not demonstrate such a bias while uncritically repeating the Bush administration’s flawed and false case for war. And they have not demonstrated such a bias this year.
A recent study purporting to demonstrate that McCain has received “negative” media coverage relied on a dubious methodology under which a news report would be assessed as “negative” if it corrected a false claim made by McCain. That doesn’t indicate “bias” – that’s just good journalism.
Media Matters has documented the news media’s relentless focus on controversies involving Barack Obama, while they ignore similar stories about McCain. Earlier this month we found more than 4,500 reports had mentioned Obama and Bill Ayers – while only a small handful had mentioned McCain’s relationship with Gordon Liddy, who once instructed people to shoot law enforcement agents in the head. Similarly, the New York Times and Washington Post ran 161 pieces that mentioned Obama and Jeremiah Wright—and only 12 that mentioned McCain’s relationship with another controversial religious figure, John Hagee.
The news media has consistently covered whatever topic or attack John McCain has pushed—from Ayers to ACORN to “Lipstick on a pig.”
It is only in comparison with the fawning media coverage McCain has benefited from over the past decade that the media appears biased against him this year.

Youre so cool! I dont suppose Ive learn something like this before. So good to seek out any individual with some original ideas on this subject. realy thank you for beginning this up. this website is one thing that's needed on the internet, somebody with a bit originality. useful job for bringing one thing new to the web! Viagra radius
no media bias really? When clinton lied to the grand jury, the Chief executive of the nation, the media turned it on it's head. poor bill leave bill alone. about 9 out of 9 liberals(braid dead people) will reflect on the issue likewise.
How bout the katie curric interview. Here she presupposes the idea that 'government regulations always = good. and no government regulations always = bad.
see, to liberals (brain dead people) they don't see a bias, because they accept that government regulations alway = good and no government regulations always = bad.
That's the government working, that's the media.
don't belabor the point. You're a bunch of brain dead nazis with out moral, conceince, sense guilt or responsibility. you're the socialist drones.
obama running for office. he no mention of an issues untill about 3 days to election night. but for the whole campaign he just talk abunch of smack about mccain. nonsense too. obama went on for hours about how all john mccain does is talk about obama. that wasn't actually true, and if you can sit there and watch obama do that for hours,, it means you have no brain, and are spritiually dead. a liar without conceince. His hypocrisy wasn't noticable? you choose not to see it, because you are prejudice and evil people. Or when Biden decides to talk about mccain's acceptance speech. He spoke to a brain dead audience that just agreed with everything he said. IF you watched the acceptance speech which was only 4 days earlier, you might notice that nothing of what Biden said was remotely true. word for word issue to issue, biden directly lied about everything he said and it made no difference. No media report. No on at all said anything about it.
it's that simple. the government knows the people are so useless and pacified.
Most mainstream media gave McCain a free ride, simplifying their bad points and exaggerating or even lying about Obama's.
I feel the Media treated McCain as well as any other Presidential candidate in recent memory. O'Bama however was treated like the second coming of Christ. I expected them to crown him king the way they fawned over him. It got sickening at times. Sure there was some negative coverage. It sells. But over all the most in the media appeared to want Obama to win. It actually started in the primaries when they turned on their former darling Hilary Clinton and jumped on the Obama band wagon. They seemed to treat Hillary worse than McCain. I don't think it was intentional. It's just that the enthusiasm for Obama was obvious.
It's really stupid to cherry pick a few examples to bolster your case and only use Fox News Channel to insist the media is right-wing (seeing that they were the only ones who really took significant time to even mention Bill Ayers).
McCain voters complaining about media bias conveniently forget that very recently McCain was the darling of the entire mainstream media. You wouldn't hear them complain about that, however.
The media is praising McCain now, because he is no threat to Obama (not that he ever was). McCain is a sellout who supports most of the far left Obama agenda and opposes none of the power grabs.
"McCain voters complaining about media bias conveniently forget that very recently McCain was the darling of the entire mainstream media. You wouldn't hear them complain about that, however."
How was this the case???
I don't think I've met anyone who can't remember that McCain was the media darling prior to Obama taking his place. That's amazing.
And after that it was Hillary Clinton but when Obama entered the picture they dropped her like a hot rock. The media, including the news, is all about ratings and show business. Obama was good show business and good ratings. Also I believe they were enthusiastic about getting a Black President.
Glad someone else was awake during that period (or at least not pretending they don't know what I'm talking about). The media isn't really anti or pro anything: it's a business, and so it puts profits over its own opinions most of the time.
I did get a sense that most of the individuals in the media were enamored with Obama and acted like they were a bit "starstruck" which made them seem a lot nicer to him in interviews. The media may not be anti or pro anything but individuals are and the bias does show through if you watch carefully (it shows in facial expressions, tone of voice and body language). Also when Palin seemed to help the McCain Campaign they were merciless in tearing her apart. McCain himself was treated fairly. Over all I think members of the media liked McCain but not as much as Obama.
Can you give me examples of this? Did they ignore the out of context quotes of "100 years of war," or remain entirely uncritical of his vice presidential pick?
I'm not talking about during the presidential election, but the primaries, and all the time before that.
Honestly, there aren't many articles on it, but I can't think of anyone else who hasn't heard of it, and I'm half-wondering if you're pretending you've no idea what I'm talking about just to prove my point.
Here's the best article I can find with a very quick search at 12:14 am. Not bothering to do more. Most will know what I'm talking about, McCain once being the media darling as he was called. If you honestly don't, there's little to be explained and my comment wasn't directed at you.
"Honestly, there aren't many articles on it,"
In part because there wouldn't be much to write about.
"...but I can't think of anyone else who hasn't heard of it, and I'm half-wondering if you're pretending you've no idea what I'm talking about just to prove my point."
Perhaps you should get out more. Maybe you can enlighten the 54% or so (as of this comment) people who disagree. I'm surely not the only one who hasn't heard of it (if it existed at all).
"Here's the best article I can find with a very quick search at 12:14 am. Not bothering to do more. Most will know what I'm talking about, McCain once being the media darling as he was called."
I don't see any active links in your comment, but the debate here is in the context of after the primaries ended, when the media was only focused on either McCain or Obama (and sometimes Hilary). When CNN begins their in-depth look at McCain by pointing out a suicide attempt in 'Nam, invites Bill Mayer on to comment on his vice presidential pick (where he said to Blitzer, "...we're both for the brother candidate.") when the media decides to highlight her daughter's pregnancy, continuously promotes the "100 years of war" misquotation, ignores the progress the surge strategy (which McCain supported) led to, Insists during an in-depth look that it was probably a "good thing" that Obama's pastor was the afro-centric guy he was because it allowed Obama to "relate to his own people," has Chris Mathews saying that he felt a shock up his leg during an Obama speech, says Palin has no experience without ever lending equal criticism to Barack, tries to accuse McCain of lying about safe neighborhoods in Iraq since the escorts REQUIRED him to wear a flak jacket no matter how safe it was (CBS), honest to god I could go on forever but if the media was pro-McCain, anti-Obama, then I just don't see the evidence for that.
McCain was the media darling during the 2004 Republican primaries primarily because they wanted Bush out (and besides, what other choices were there?). Since then no.
For anybody interested, Bills have been presented for Michigan allowing conceal carry on Campus, there was a recent change at Michigan State University allowing those with CPL's to transport through campus without being against school policy. Hurray for the good guys!
Check the www.nraila.org website for more information on this. Workplace Protection and Campus Carry Introduced in Michigan! Friday, September 11, 2009
In an ongoing effort to broaden carry rights on college and university campuses, Senator Randy Richardville (R-17) introduced Senate Bill 747 this week. This bill would exempt state colleges and universities from the "safe zone" provision of Michigan’s concealed carry law , enabling permit holders 21 years and older, to legally carry on campuses across the state. The current arbitrary and artificial boundaries designate where permit holders can and cannot lawfully carry their gun for self-defense. Of course, criminals do not obey the law , putting innocent citizens in jeopardy in these designated gun-free zones where criminals know right-to-carry is prohibited. Michigan State University recently permitted concealed carry on campus, but the university still has prohibitions in classrooms, buildings and dormitories. The bill would expand carry rights to all campus property, including buildings. SB747 has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee, but it has not been scheduled for a hearing.
The media hasn't corrected a false claim by McCain they have twisted it around and then saying it was wrong. The claims have been true, the media has been the personal relations department for Obama. They also sent dozens of reporters into Alaska to dig up ANYTHING they could on Palin. Villifying her for having a handicapped child. Their big splash about her misusing her ffice authority was in the papers for days. You didn't hear a damn thing when she was totally exonerated.
Anyone who sides with the media is no patriot!!
