Should the U.S. Restrict Free Trade?

Free Trade Makes American Paychecks Go Farther

Diana Furchtgott-Roth

Free trade makes Americans better off because it results in a flow of inexpensive goods to American stores, increasing purchasing power and keeping inflation low.   Our paychecks go farther because we can buy clothes made in the Philippines , maple syrup from Canada , and toys from China . Imagine if we could only buy goods made in America . We would have a lower standard of living.
