Exhibit 12 Million – Our Broken Borders
There are at least 12 million reasons why a fence should be built. It has been over 20 years since the U.S. Congress last implemented immigration reform to address our broken borders. Over the 20 years, and following implementation of a legalization program, we now find ourselves facing an illegal immigrant population estimated to be between 12-20 million. It is estimated that this population has grown by 500,000 individuals each year since 2001. It is estimated that approximately 66% of this illegal immigration population has entered the United States by illegally crossing the border, the other 33% having overstayed their temporary visas. Based on these numbers, there is a strong argument that the U.S. must do anything possible to deter future illegal immigration, to include a strong emphasis on controlling the border and preventing illegal border crossings. While technology will be a part of the solution, sometimes the simplest solution is the most effective. Building a fence is one of those simple solutions that will make a difference in border control and is a key ingredient to the United States’ overall ability to put order and control at our borders. The simplicity is clear: putting a physical impediment in front of next 500,000 illegal immigrants will deter individuals from attempting this, and for those that wish to continue, will make it even more difficult to succeed in crossing. It is difficult to argue against this logic based on its simplicity, and it is even more difficult to argue that such a barricade is not needed because the border is under control.
