Should South Dakota Pass the Abortion Ban?

Should South Dakota Pass the Abortion Ban?

In 1973, the Supreme Court made one of its most controversial decisions, declaring most anti-abortion laws unconstitutional. Now on November 4th, the people of South Dakota will head to the polls to vote on a proposed statewide abortion ban. With emotions running high on both sides, how should abortion be legislated in tomorrow’s America? (Editor's Note: On November 4th, South Dakota voters rejected Measure 11 to ban abortion.)

Doctor is Never Prohibited from Trying to Save Life of Unborn Child

Vote Yes For Life

Our airways have been filled with an ad featuring a mother telling of a personal tragedy that resulted in one of her twins dying in utero from Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome.  Creators of this ad used this personal tragedy to attempt to deceive the voters of South Dakota. The ad implies that the procedure used to save the surviving baby would be prohibited by Initiative 11.

That is a deliberate misrepresentation.

Section Two of the Initiative clearly states that the only procedure prohibited is one intended to terminate the life of the unborn child. A procedure intended to save the live of one or both babies is permitted even if it is likely one of the babies will die. As long as the purpose is to save life, not to intentionally terminate it, the procedure is legal.

This kind of deception is reflective of the influence of national organizations from New York and Washington D.C., the abortion proponents A.C.L.U., Planned Parenthood of America and NARAL, pledging to band together to defeat the will of the South Dakota people. The South Dakota people must vote to set South Dakota values and not be deceived by those who do not share those values.
