Civil Society Provides For its Constituents and Fights Discrimination.
In much the same way that free access to primary education, parks and roads, and fire and police protection are fundamental aspects of living in a civil society, in an information age, universal access to the Internet is critically important. Constituencies and communities without Internet access face increasing discrimination in all aspects of their life (from education to health care to job opportunities and access to news). Within a civil society, we have a responsibility to prevent discriminatory practices that directly target already-disadvantaged groups -- universal Internet access is an opportunity to reverse these trends and support all facets of civil society.
