Citizenship for Lawbreakers Subverts Citizenship

American citizenship is a precious thing. It confers
membership in a society offering the advantages of rule of law, most
significantly personal freedoms and economic prosperity. Citizenship essentially
expresses who and what we are.

Granting
citizenship to foreigners who break our laws undercuts our rule of law—and all
the benefits that follow from it. Furthermore, we as a people show a profound
lack of self-respect if we permit foreigners not only to trespass on our land,
but, even worse, reward their contempt for our law with the jewel of citizenship.
This debases the worth of citizenship for everyone, including, most ironically,
the lawbreakers who receive it. And our lack of self-respect doesn’t end here.
It sends a signal abroad inviting the world’s contempt and more people to take
advantage of us.

America as a
free nation, governed by the people and for the people, depends on citizens
respecting their role and status as citizens. Ancient Rome fell because uncontrolled migrations
diluted citizenship and left a mass of demoralized subjects. If we don’t learn
from that fate, we most likely will repeat it.

Of the 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the US, all of them are breaking the law by doing so. So does this mean they do not deserve citizenship ? How about Americans who break the law? Should their citizenship be revoked? Do they deserve that? The US government is the largest breaker of laws that I know; should the government revoke it's own right to govern? We are a nation of lawbreakers; we are a nation of immigrants, a nation of diversity , choice, and FREEDOM. A nation of freedom; however, somewhere in the 233 years as a "free nation", the definition of "free" has changed. For many people and for many years, the United States has stood as a beacon of hope, a land of opportunity, and a chance at a new life, a better life. To deny citizenship in a "free nation", a nation founded on immigrants, lawbreakers, and rebel souls, is not only the greatest hippocracy we can commit as a nation, but it's the greatest debt that we can deny ourselves, a debt that we are bound by as Americans.

Americans who break the law (prisoners) don't get their citizenship revoked, but A LOT of their rights are revoked. You can't vote , you can't have privacy , you can't protect yourself, you don't have a lot of things... its basically one step away from revoked citizenship

Illegals did not earn their citizenship... they don't fit the requirements. They broke into this country knowing they are not citizens... they should not even be in our country. Laws in this country are subject to everyone LEGALLY occupying the US... if you are a mexican citizen, you have no right to be in the US... you act like this is hippocracy, but no illegal alien has gained the privilege in being in the USA..., you have not told us how you could help the country. We are a free nation, not a state of anarchy you propose if we allow illegals to be in the states

I don't neccessary think all should get citizenship. I think it shuld be taken on a personal basis. I think that if an immigrant can speak, write and read english then they should be able to get a path to citizenship. It shows that they are trying to become a part of the american community. All the people say that they are taking jobs away from americans have no idea what you are talking about. I work in the restaurant industry and Only once did we have an "american" person come apply for a cook, dishwasher or busboy position. I also believe that if an immigrant has married an Citizen then they should be able to apply as long as the couple can prove that they are in it for the long term ie (kids, paper trail,) maybe they should have to wait 3-5 years but then it should be granted. Many Hispanics do send money hom eto their families, but they also are taking english classes and are trying to fit in. at least they are taking care oif their family. The have great family values and maybe we can learn from them.
