Circumcision Should Be Routine; is Akin to a Safe Surgical ‘Vaccine’

Circumcision is a simple surgical procedure that removes the foreskin, which is a sleeve of skin covering the tip of the penis. Parents have the legal right to authorize circumcision. In order to make an informed decision, they should carefully consider the benefits and risks.

The foreskin traps bacteria and other infectious agents. It accumulates smegma, which has an unpleasant smell. Therefore removal of the foreskin improves genital hygiene and reduces risk of diseases and other conditions over the lifetime for the boy and his future sexual partners.

It has been carried out for thousands of years and 34% of males worldwide are circumcised – an enormous number for an intervention like this. For males born in the USA the rate is 90% in non-Hispanic whites and 80% in Blacks. In Australia 60% of men are circumcised, whereas in the UK it is 10-20%.

Circumcision of males confers a lifetime of medical benefits. If one adds up all of the factors listed below, conservatively, 1 in 3 uncircumcised males will, over their lifetime, develop a condition requiring medical attention. These conditions mean various degrees of suffering and in rare cases death. In contrast, getting circumcised is very safe – risk of an easily-treatable condition is 1 in 500, and of a true complication is 1 in 5,000. Moreover, a successful circumcision is very unlikely to have any long-term adverse consequences.

Ethics's picture

Circumcision is an elective procedure. Thus the consent of the PATIENT must be sought. When a practitioner and the parents take that decision from the patient, instead of delaying the procedure until the patient can chose for himself, they jointly need to take full responsibility for their action and for any of its consequences.

Should the patient, in later life, decide that his rights been violated and that an atrocity has been committed against him or that he has suffered physical and psychological damage, then he should be able to sue the responsible individuals for compensation both criminally and civilly.

It could also be argued that in the few cases where the child dies due to complications of infant circumcision that the practitioner and the parents be tried for infanticide.

Dr Brian Morris, your response to the issue lacks negative arguments. You say that parents should "carefully consider the benefits and risks" of circumcision , yet you fail to state any of the significant risks; not because there aren't any, simple because you felt like neglecting them. I believe that you failed to mention that every year children die due to complications resulting from neonatal male circumcisions. These are deaths that would not occur if paediatric surgeons had not attempted to circumcise male infants.

You also do not mention that circumcision carries a high risk of removing the frenulum, which is the most sensitive part of the penis. You do not mention that the ridged band - a neurological structure that provides intense pleasure to males is invariably removed from circumcision.

Circumcising 500 boys will save only FOUR from developing a urinary tract infection. The penis was made so that all the parts work together, not so that one could be removed whilst retaining the same function and sensitivity as before. The foreskin contains many structures including the frenulum, the ridged band, mucous membrane and sebaceous glands (sebaceous glands are not present in all males) that are usually lost to circumcision.

Don't forget that circumcision always leaves an ugly scar (a circumcised penis hardly looks attractive) and removes the natural gliding effect a foreskin provides. This makes masturbation rough and causes chafing. If a circumcision is poorly performed, and too much skin is removed, men experience painful erections.

Please refrain from responding to the topic with another response containing so much bias and misinformation. Thank you.

You know the pro circ is desperate when they pull out the vaccination argument. The only more ridiculous circ freak argument is that humans wear clothing now and NO LONGER need the foreskin . The mutilated that can’t feel the pleasure are ignorant in denying the pleasure of the partS of the foreskin.

Of course there are two basic reasons that vaccination is not analogous.

1) Circumcision does not provide any benefits. If it did, there would be vaccination type observations in the real world. The highly mutilated US would have had very little HIV and Europe would have been hit much harder. There would be no difference between Africa HIV studies and other studies that DID NOT find the risk reduction (alleged risk change of from 3.4% risk to 1.7% risk). The Army study and many US studies and real world don’t show that risk reduction. The STI Africa data would match the New Zealand data and US data (which show natural men have same or less STIs). The mis match of data instead shows fraud Another fraud is that mutilated men often like orqal more than vaginal sex and Herpes especially affects circ scar with result being blow jobs and circumcision spreading STIs in the US.

2) Circumcision takes away the main male sexual pleasure zones. This is huge and no vaccination does anything as horrible as this. Morris and other circumfreaks cannot deny the nerve endings – touch and stretch sensitive– that give pleasure and are taken away by this heinous mutilation. Or can they deny them like color blind people denying the joy of color sight?
If this can be compared to a vaccination that does nothing but take away pleasure senatation, then the analogy is correct and of course this is unethical.

Ethics's picture

The debate about circumcision will rage on forever. There can be no doubt that there are pros and cons to both being circumcised or being left "uncut".

For the most part circumcision is an Elective Procedure, that is to say that there is patient choice involved. Occassionally circumcision has to be carried out in an Emergency e.g. paraphimosis to prevent necrosis to the glans itself. In other words the patient has no choice but to have the procedure done expediently.

Routinely circumcision on infants are done electively. In this day and age there has been a tendency in Medicine & Surgery to move towards getting Informed Consent by the patient for all Elective Irreversable Surgical Procedures.

Thus the patient must be informed of:

1) The Alternative Treatment Options (including no treatment or
delaying treatment)

2) The short term Complications or things that might occur
(or go wrong) during and immediately after the procedure
such as bleeding, infection, or pain

3) The long term Prognosis of having the procedure done.

This information should be given in a non-bias manner, in such a way that the patient is not be swayed down one treatment route or the other. The languange must be at a level and in terms that can be understood by the patient. Consent should be written (i.e. signed)by the patient. If informed consent cannot be obtained by the patient, then the procedure should be delayed until informed consent can be obtained (unless it is an emergency).

If an adult man were taken off the street, placed in a restrainer and circumcised without his Informed Consent. The Operator would be charged for Sexual Assault and given a custodial sentence. Why then should infants be denied the same protection under the law ?

Most importantly doctors should be mindful of their Hypocratic Oath:

"... and above all else do no harm."

Morris claims that those who try and protect new born babies from genital mutilation are fanatics! Who's the real fanatic? and from the man who says babies have "No RightS!!"

Graham Johnson's picture

Brian Morris is a well known Circumcision advocate in Australia, and most recently convinced 60 mins to run an episode on circumcision. Austrlains who watched the circumcision program, (Australians being generally well educated, and having experienced the foresin within their culture), strongly rejected his views on Circumcision.
He gave himself away with his performance, emotively claiming that "Babies have no Rights!!" Australians rejected him and his primitive and barbaric views. Women of Australia have been with intact European descendent men and have learnt the truth about the foreskin and have overwhelmingly chosen to keep their boys natural.

Mistertruth's picture

Circumcision immensely improves a male's physical, medical, sexual, hygiene, urinary & spiritual well-being. If more people on Earth weren't under oppressive Socialism, Communism & Poverty-Stricken
Conditions, the Global Circumcision Rate would be MUCH HIGHER than it is currently.

The last thing I want to mention about Circumcision, is that Circumcision ONLY applies to MALES! Whatever women have down there between their legs regardless size, shape, form, length and thickness is 100% part of the female sexual vaginal organ. By NO MEANS can the foreskin on the penis be compared to any part of a woman's genitalia!

Foreskin is IDENTICAL to the Umbical Cord material and has ZERO protective functions for the penis, but rather the contrary. Babies do momentarily cry as the clamp is applied to the umbilical cord in the same manner as the foreskin. As soon as the clamp is applied both the foreskin and umbilical cord turn numb and can be cut off. The only truly painful part of circumcising male infants is peeling the foreskin from the head as it is retracted backwards, not so much the brief clamping and cutting of the foreskin. The brief retracting of the foreskin causes discomfort. But when the foreskin is clamped there is no pain involved after that. The numb foreskin trims off like the umbilical cord.

This concludes my Comment. Thank You for reading.

The total Global Circumcision Rate, and like Dr. Morris said, it is about 34%. I calculated around 34.4% of all males on Earth are circumcised. This shows you that no other Elective Surgery on Earth and in all of Human History is as universally practiced as Circumcision. If more people on Earth weren't in abject poverty, I'm sure the Global Circumcision Rate would be much higher than it is now. Observe the following Statistics below.

Here are the Truthful Global Circumcision Statistics:

Total Global Population: 6.3 Billion People.

Total Global Male Population: 3.15 Billion Males (50% of the world are Males).

USA: 150 Million Males @ 70% Circumcision Rate = 105 Million Circumcised American Males.

Canada: 16 Million Males @ 45% Circumcision Rate = 7.2 Million Circumcised Canadian Males.

Islamic Nations: 600 Million Males @ 100% Circumcision Rate = 600 Million Circumcised Muslim Males.

Jewish Males: 6 Million @ 100 % Circumcision Rate = 6 Million Circumcised Jewish Males.

All Other Nations: 15% Circumcision Rate in all Other Nations OUTSIDE of Jewish, Muslim, American & Canadian Nations/People ===> [(3.15 Billion Males) - (105 Million Circumcised Males) - (7.2 Million Circumcised Males) - (600 Million Circumcised Males) - (6 Million Circumcised Males) ] x [0.15] = 364.77 Million Circumcised Males.

Total Number of Circumcised Males Globally: [(105 Million) + (7.2 Million) + (600 Million) + (6 Million) + (364.77 Million) = 1.08297 Billion Circumcised Males on Earth or 1,082,970,000 Circumcised
Males on Earth.

Total Global Male Population: 3.15 Billion Males.

Total Global Number of Circumcised Males: 1.08297 Billion Circumcised Males.

Percentage of Circumcised Males Globally: [(1.08297 Billion Circumcised Males) / (3.15 Billion Males)] x [100] = 34.4 %.

PERCENTAGE OF ALL MALES ON EARTH WHO ARE CIRCUMCISED: 34.4 %.

Circumcision should be defaulted as routine and required for all males period. No consent should be required by Doctors. Circumcision is more than just skin removal, it is a normalization of the penis as it was intended to operate as. Foreskin provides no "protection" as it is an obstruction, leading to internalization for a part meant to be external. This leads to injury, urine retention, infections, septic conditions (which don't go away for long even after washing), pain and sexual dysfunction of the penis contrary to its intended purposes.

Not to mention the foreskin itself, aside from being an open door for HIV and STDs' because of Tyson's Cells, Human Papillion Virus secretes from the foreskin inner mucosa. Circumcision should be defaulted back to a 'Medically Necessary' Status. If the Doctors and the Courts in America get together, this could be restored.

Then male infants will receive their Circumcisions in the same manner they have their umbilical cords removed. Circumcision will no longer become an issue, no more than removing the umbilical cord. Then these absurd controversies will die out all-together.

When Circumcision was mandatory back some time ago, everyone guy was happy & circumcised. Now not every guy is and there is more problems. The Anti-Circumcision advocates are clearly suffering from Psychological Disturbances. Because I had my foreskin till I was 18, and had it removed, that skin is a total nuisance. As for being "robbed of a foreskin", that I laugh at. As for being liberated from an insensitive, highly foul and senseless piece of obstructing tissue, I am grateful.

Adult Circumcision is simple and painless, as if the foreskin was never there. Much better! I just wish I was circumcised when I was born. It's not easy telling adults when you're 15 years old that you want your foreskin gone. But I got around to it, things became great afterwards. 33 now.

It's no big deal getting it done, any of you think it is scary, no more scary than getting a tooth pulled.

Personally if they made Circumcision mandatory for all males, because of the health & sexual benefits not to just the male, but to society in general to protect the female from the infectious foreskin, I would be totally in favor of that.

By all definitions it is a body modification and mutilation. Every part of the body accumulates bacteria and all bacteria gives off an oder if left to accumulate, that is why we wash our bodies - the penis and vagina are no different.

There is so much wrong with the logic of removing a body part 'just in case' it gets infected. If we were all to follow that logic we should remove most of the human body at birth, just leave our brains in a jar.

Parents, the body alone, and let the owner make the decision when they are old enough to.

Vaccines are not effective, they have horrific side effects and are responsible for the growing Autism epidemic, rampant diabetes and a host of other 'normal' childhood afflictions. I would place vaccines and circumcision in the same catergory, "Things Informed Parents Do not Do."

James1's picture

I agree with you that circumcision is inherently wrong, but I do not believe that vaccines are GENERALLY unsafe. Vaccines have complications only in a minority of people and are effective at reducing the severity of diseases. Immunisations are also generally safe and have the benefit of making the child immune to the disease.

candlemomma124's picture

So because someone has a different viewpoint than you they are not informed? Very narrow minded. You don't want to circumcise your son, fine, don't. I'm glad I had my son's done. You don't want to vax your kid, then don't...and keep them away from mine. Guess what? I also formula feed my kids and one of them to day care so I could go to work...who cares?

Please prove to me how my decisions are less "informed" then yours? Can you prove to me that I didn't do my research before deciding to circumcise my son or give my kids vaccines? You can't. It's an opinion you have because someone feels differently than you.

bagpiper2005's picture

For being all-natural. It's best to never mess with mother nature, as she knows best. Only thing I'd like to know is do you home-school, since you cannot enroll your kids in school without vaccines, or can you use religion/ethics as a scape goat?

StarMommy77's picture

Noticing the tone of your comment, I'd say you haven't had the opportunity to invesitgate Vaccines or the reasons people refuse them.

I have several hundreds of hours of research and I am still looking for more information. I hope to publically speak on this subject. Vaccine Awareness is akin to Genital Integrity Awareness.

My children attend public school and I use a religious waiver. Until a single safety study is done on Vaccines I will continue to use this 'scapegoat' (waiver) to protect my children and promote their health. Children have a schedule that is insane, over 36 vaccines in the first 12 months. Myelin sheathing is not complete on their nerves until well after age 2. My guess this along with toxic heavey metals has led to an increase in Autism and Vaccine Injury by 6,000% since 1982.

bagpiper2005's picture

I was vaccinated, my sister not. I have all sorts of problems she never had. I'm very well aware that neither vaccines nor circumcision are safe or effective, as I have first-hand experience having had both done on me against my will.

Gideon From The Dirty Onion's picture

We were born with it. The foreskin is part of our body. First, mandatory alteration of our bodies should NEVER be permitted. If you are a believer in God, then you must believe that God made men with foreskin for a reason. If you are not, you must surely believe in nature and that our bodies were developed with foreskin for a reason. The foreskin is supposed to protect the sensitive area on the head of the penis. You are making a decision to physically remove a part of your son when there is nothing wrong. You state bad smell as a reason. Ok, remove the sweat glands from the anus and armpit. You also state bacteria. One word response, Wash. Really, our society picked up the act of circumcision from the Jewish (religious practice – not medical reason) and continued to practice it. Lastly, Safe Surgical Vaccine? Please have a better argument with less holes. Vaccines have been linked to so many problems that it is inconceivable that you used it as a basis for argument.

StarMommy77's picture

Women also have smegma that can build up inside the inner lips of the labia if they do not wash or wash well. And yes, there is an odor when we do not wash well. I doubt that we would remove the inner and outer labia of a female infant as a form of preventative hygiene. Many goverments call that FGM Female Genital Mutliation. They call it muitlation because you are removing, destroying, or defacing viable organs or tissue WITHOUT the consent of the child.
My 8 yr old is intact with no problems. My 2 yr old nephew needs reconstructive surgery on his "hidden" penis, as my Sister In Law decided since she preferred the look of a Circumsized Penis, she would alter her son to her sexual prefernces. Disgusting. My nephew has no penis, he cannot potty train and must wear diapers until she can afford the surgery. How sad and preventable.
I rarely hear of complications of a foreskin, I hear new stories everyday about complications and sugical botches done on infants penises.

Mistertruth's picture

I am a man, I know about this subject better than you do. I also was circumcised as an Adult. Medically, Sexually, Hygienically, everything became so great after getting rid that bothersome foreskin. Everything is just perfect now. I know how much of a nuisance foreskin really is. If parents are truly educated and care for their son(s) they will have them circumcised in the second week of life. The only thing I wish, was that I was circumcised at birth. Your son will probably criticize you for leaving him with a foreskin when he gets older. If you knew better you’d have had him circumcised. Not meaning to be mean to you, but women don’t know everything about this subject. I never claimed to know what pregnancy is like or menstrual periods or anything which are female topics. Circumcision is male topic, and I know about this subject VERY WELL. You should have your son circumcised, if not now, then in the near future on by Urologist. It would be excellent if Circumcision was mandatory for all males without having to ask incompetent parents on their "decision".

Mistertruth's picture

You can't compare the labia minora which is a sex organ to the foreskin on the penis which is NOT. Smegma or not, the foreskin is exactly like the umbilical cord, and obstructs not protects the head of the penis into dysfunction. Not to mention also that two viruses are constantly being secreted by the foreskin: 1.) Tyson's Cells; 2.) HPV. Not only is this problematic and totally useless to the male, it also can lead to serious health problems when deposited into the vagina from the non-circumcised male.

This is more than just "looks" this is structure & function as well as Histological grounds for making circumcision medically required for all males.

I am a man, I know about this subject better than you do. I also was circumcised as an Adult. I know how much of a nusiance foreskin really is. If parents are truly educated and care for their son they will have him circumcised in the second week of life.

filling your kid with live virus's, mercury, and other toxins does not sound safe. nor is ripping the forskin off your newborn penis.
The forskin is attached which protects the penis.
