Caffeine has been Enjoyed Safely for Hundreds of Years
Caffeine from natural sources has been consumed by humans worldwide for centuries. Coffee berries were used as a food in around 600 AD and its use as a hot beverage came into use around 1000 AD. Its use in Europe dates from the 17th century and then spread rapidly. However, the oldest caffeine containing beverage is tea and the first mention of tea was by the Chinese Emperor, Shen Nung in 2737 BC according to tradition. Also, it was listed in a Chinese dictionary around 350 AD. It reached Europe via Dutch traders around 1600. Caffeine has been used as a flavor component in some soft drinks since 1885 and also is used to a lesser extent as a flavoring agent in baked goods, dairy desserts, puddings and other foods. Millions of humans have consumed caffeine in beverage and foods safely for hundreds of years.
