The second amendment of the constitution guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. As the specter of gun violence continues in our workplaces, roads and schools, the question keeps arising: do guns keep you safe, or just increase the level of violence?

of 1 million times annually, armed private citizens successfully defend
themselves against criminal attack, usually without firing a shot. Criminals often
run at the sight of a gun, and at other times they are defeated by their
intended victims. Historian Clayton Cramer, for example, gathers reports of
armed self-defense around the country that explode the myth that people are
more likely to have their guns turned against them.
