Should We Eat Meat?

Should We Eat Meat?

Thanksgiving arrives every year with a heated debate over how to best cook that plump and juicy turkey. But the idea of a tofu turkey (also known as a “tofurkey”) has gone from a joke a couple years ago to a reality for many. While vegetarianism has been practiced for over a thousand years in some countries, it is a relatively new concept in the West. And so, with the question cropping up more and more often, should we eat meat?

    We?

Why did Prof. Francione call the article "We are all Michael Vick?" As a vegan, shouldn't he have called it "You are all Michael Vick?"

Necessity not for me but for my cat

I am vegan because I do not have the necessity to eat meat and having free-will I can choose not to do so. But my cat is a carnivore and so I must buy meat to feed my cat. I know this is a contradiction and I wish I had a choice, but my cat's diet has to be 50% meat, because cats are among the most carnivorous of all the carnivores. I suppose I could argue that pet ownership should not have existed in the first place, but we must take care of the animals we have domesticated. I do not breed my cat. So, what should vegans do if they own carnivorous pets ? I cannot accept the argument that it may have been less cruel overall to put my cat down, than to feed it a cat's lifetime of chickens and fish, even if that is a logical argument- since so many animals suffer to sustain my one cat.
