Is Homosexuality a Sin?

Is Homosexuality a Sin?

There has been no shortage of controversy as gay people assume increased roles as parents and married couples in our society, but almost nowhere has this conflict been more intense than in the church. Many religious leaders have condemned homosexuality, calling it a sin or even an abomination, but for millions of gay people around the world, there is nothing inherently sinful about their sexual preferences.

A common tactic of those who oppose gays and lesbians is to demonize us as a group. An egregious violation of common decency is highlighted - nudity and public sex at a San Francisco gay festival, for example.

The illogical assumption is then made that all gays and lesbians behave like the egregious example, therefore all gays and lesbians are living in sin.

The problem with this argument is that anyone who knows gays and lesbians knows that most of us do not behave like the egregious example. We are so normal in our daily lives and in our political and spiritual beliefs that we blend into the general population.

Homosexuals and heterosexuals are all sinners in need of redemption.

God provides that redemption through Jesus Christ. Yet homosexuality is not any more sinful than heterosexuality. Both orientations are part of God's incredibly diverse creation, both are capable of sinfulness or holiness and both homos and hetseros express the glory of God.
